The hieratic family groups and black figures become immersed in new environments as Weinstein begins to explore landscape. A calligraphic brush creates a personal language. The expansion of these themes into folding screens opens the paths to the divided canvases of recent years. Works are acrylic on canvas.
The Blue Garden screen 2000 is the first large scale divided work. The Garden of Eden paintings 2000 and the Gazing Men 2001 lead to frieze-like works of joined canvases where vertical shapes suggest clearings and vertical obstructions through which the movement flows. Works are acrylic on canvas.
The Woods and Marshes series of 2002 advance the structure of compositions. The canvas panels and small pieces augment and expand the central image to act like resonating chambers for the emotion of the painterly focus. The continuity of the surfaces varies through the use of a range of canvas textures from fine to coarse. Works are acrylic on canvas.
The Blue Woods and Marsh paintings 2004 - 2006, expand the exploration of focal images and saturated color fields. The increasingly large scale includes the Marriott Hotel commission, Autumn 8' by 5'. The Tapestry series of 2006 simplifies compositions by reducing the color range and by focusing on the black voids which echo the black of the suspended figures. Works are acrylic on canvas.
Weinstein's works on paper, ranging his entire career, include variations on the human figure with and without surroundings, from somber or even sinister to whimsical at times. Techniques include Intaglio, etchings, monoprints, as well as ink on paper and cotton.
